THE CLIENT AND THE NEEDS
Getec Italia is a leading energy management operator, managing thousands of systems throughout the country in a wide variety of sectors: residential, public administration, and industry.
The growth of the plant portfolio led to increasing complexity: heterogeneous systems, different platforms, inconsistent data, and decentralized management that made it difficult to gain a comprehensive view of energy performance. The company needed a paradigm shift.
New location for a large and innovative company canteen, which welcomes hundreds of workers and their families every day. Here you can enjoy a quality lunch break in a modern ambience, with spacious, comfortable areas and continuous air renewal thanks to an efficient and sophisticated air conditioning system. This is where the Coster Group built the control system for the canteen used by employees in the Cagliari industrial area and regularly attended and enjoyed by Amazon workers.
The requirements were clear: unify the software for remote plant management, standardize the technology, have reliable, real-time data, and create a scalable system that can be used by technicians with different skills and also comply with European directives such as the EPBD.
THE CHOICE AND IMPLEMENTATION
The answer was to build an integrated ecosystem based on programmable Coster hardware with CosterCAD and WebGarage, used in close synergy.
CosterCAD has become the heart of the design process: each system is engineered through a graphical environment that allows for the definition of logic, behaviors, and variables without IT complexity. This approach has allowed for standardized design and replicable programming and subsequent configurations.
The distinctive value lies in the continuity between design and management: what is built in CosterCAD is automatically transferred to WebGarage, seamlessly. This means that the plant management manager in the control room sees exactly the same system designed by the technician, reducing errors and operating times.
WebGarage is the hub of supervision: a unique web-based platform, accessible from any device, that allows Getec to monitor and manage thousands of systems from a single point of access. The multi-server architecture ensures operational continuity and scalability, while the hierarchical structure allows for easy navigation of even very large portfolios.
A key element of the implementation was also the evolution towards the Z series controllers BACnet developed by Coster, which enables native integration with advanced protocols (such as BACnet) and allows the management of complex systems and third-party systems, making the ecosystem even more open, flexible and ready for advanced building automation scenarios.
The integration between WebGarage and internal systems has also automated the flow of energy data, making it available for advanced analysis without manual intervention.
THE BENEFITS
The combined adoption of CosterCAD and WebGarage has radically transformed Getec’s operating model.
Plant management is now centralized, consistent, and scalable, with a single work environment for over 100 users, including field technicians and remote plant management managers. The 24/7 control room allows for continuous monitoring and timely intervention.
From an energy perspective, the availability of granular and up-to-date data has made it possible to optimize consumption, reduce waste, and improve indoor comfort. The alarm system allows for early intervention in the event of anomalies and inefficiencies.
Training and operations have also been simplified: thanks to CosterCAD, technicians with different skill levels can work on a common system, reducing learning times and increasing autonomy. Getec also benefits from ongoing training throughout the calendar year in collaboration with Coster to develop the skills needed for complete plant management.
The result is a concrete competitive advantage: Getec is now able to respond to market demands and regulations with already operational, measurable, and scalable solutions.
THE FUTURE
The platform built with WebGarage and CosterCAD is the basis for a new data-driven evolution.
Getec is already working on advanced automations based on real-world presence, weather data integration, and predictive logic to optimize consumption on a large scale. The expansion of the Z series and integration with protocols like BACnet further open the system to more complex and interconnected ecosystems.
Looking ahead, the system is no longer simply controlled but becomes intelligent, capable of adapting, learning, and generating continuous value.
In this scenario, CosterCAD and WebGarage are not simple tools, but represent the digital infrastructure on which to build the energy management of the future: a single, coherent and scalable system, capable of transforming complexity into control and data into decisions.
